Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the steps Bermondsey Cleaners has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our business or supply chains. Bermondsey Cleaners is committed to operating ethically, transparently, and with integrity in all our business relationships.
Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, and human trafficking. Bermondsey Cleaners adopts a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery and expects the same high standards from everyone we work with.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Bermondsey Cleaners operates in the cleaning and facilities services sector, providing services to residential, commercial, and corporate clients. Our operations rely on a combination of directly employed staff and third-party suppliers who provide cleaning products, equipment, and certain subcontracted services. We recognise that elements of our supply chain may operate in sectors or regions where there is a higher risk of labour exploitation, and we take this risk seriously.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward modern slavery and human trafficking in any part of our operations or supply chains. This policy is embedded in our internal procedures and forms part of our expectations for all employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers. We do not knowingly engage with any organisation that fails to uphold the same standards.
All staff are expected to act with integrity and to report concerns about potential modern slavery practices without delay. Any breach of our policy by an employee may result in disciplinary action, which could include dismissal. Any breach by a supplier or contractor may result in the termination of our business relationship.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
We are committed to working only with suppliers who share our values on ethical labour practices. As part of our supplier due diligence, we assess the risk of modern slavery in our supply chains and take proportionate measures to mitigate these risks. New suppliers are required to confirm that they comply with all applicable labour and human rights legislation and that they do not engage in any form of modern slavery or human trafficking.
We conduct periodic reviews and audits of key suppliers, focusing on those operating in higher-risk sectors or jurisdictions. These audits may include requesting supporting documentation on employment practices, working hours, wages, recruitment processes, and use of labour agencies. Where we identify concerns, we work with the supplier to implement corrective actions. If satisfactory improvements are not made within a reasonable timeframe, we will consider terminating the relationship.
Training, Awareness, and Reporting Channels
We are committed to increasing awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff and management. Training is provided to relevant employees, particularly those involved in procurement, supplier management, and recruitment, so they can identify signs of modern slavery and know how to respond to potential issues.
Bermondsey Cleaners encourages a culture of openness and transparency. Employees, workers, suppliers, and other stakeholders are encouraged to raise concerns in confidence if they suspect any form of modern slavery in our operations or supply chains. Concerns can be reported through internal management channels or via any designated reporting routes outlined in our internal policies. Reports will be treated seriously, confidentially, and investigated promptly, with appropriate remedial actions taken where necessary.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that combating modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. Bermondsey Cleaners is committed to continually improving our processes and controls to identify, prevent, and address modern slavery risks. We periodically review our policies, supplier engagement processes, and training materials to ensure they remain effective and reflect evolving best practice.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least annually by our senior management, who oversee its implementation and effectiveness. The review considers any incidents reported, results from supplier audits, changes in legislation, and feedback from stakeholders. Where necessary, we will update our actions and procedures to strengthen our response and ensure we are doing all we reasonably can to combat modern slavery and human trafficking.
This statement has been approved by the management of Bermondsey Cleaners and constitutes our Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement for the current financial year.
